What I Do
I create websites for individuals and small organisations.
I specialise in sites for the little guys and gals. Charities, NGOs, small local businesses and organisations – you are the people who I want to make agency-standard websites for.
I won’t dump a big, hefty system or other baggage on you
I make sure you can easily update your website and change content using either my own Content Management Systems or a pre-built system like Perch or MojoMotor.
This way is better for you – it costs less, and you get a more manageable site.
I work closely with you
I will consult you carefully about every aspect of the site’s performance and design, although this has to work as a two way thing – you give me feedback and tell me what you’d like, but you also have to trust my judgement as someone who knows what they’re doing.
A Typical Project Schedule
“How Long Does It Take?” is a common question, and there’s no one answer, especially as websites are never truly ‘finished’. But this is the kind of schedule I usually work to:
-
Week 1
First Contact With Client:
The aims of the website are discussed, and we start making wireframes and moodboards to reference throughout the design process. Contracts get signed at this kind of time. -
Week 2
1 Week In:
Having completed wireframes and mood boards, we start getting the site together. -
Weeks 3~6
Over a period (about a month):
We collaboratively design the look, feel and structure of the site. To prevent wasted time and inadequate, unsatisfactory results, I involve my clients at every stage of this process. -
Week 7~8
A Month or Two In:
The Big Release! I prefer to get the site out there and live as soon as possible, then work from there. It’s an excellent way to work. Into the Future…
We make continuous, incremental improvements to really polish the site.
(This is for a project of similar size to johnwalters.co.uk, and assumes that the client is cooperative!)
Who I’ve Worked With
I have worked with and continue to work with many lovely, satisfied clients, including:

John Walters • johnwalters.co.uk
My multi-talented Dad, and a fantastic wildlife artist. Be sure to subscribe to his wildlife notebook! It’s a goldmine of fantastic paintings and info.
Dad’s website is built on the modern standards of HTML5 and CSS, as well as a rock solid CMS so he can edit the website himself. It also intelligently re-formats it’s self for different browser sizes, much like this site (give it a go! Try resizing the window and see what happens).

South West Herpetological Society • southwestherps.co.uk
The South West Herpetological society wanted a small, manageable site that succinctly summed up what they were about, informed their members about events, and invited new members to join.
southwestherps.co.uk was the website that sparked my One Page Is Enough Musings post.
